Songs of Here; Songs of Now
Songs of Here; Songs of Now was a musical performance by B Sharp and local community participants in May 2022 celebrating young people’s original songwriting.
The performance expressed the young people’s response to the landscapes, places and times in which they find themselves living and growing up – including the landscape, and natural & built environment of the Jurassic coast and Lyme Regis.
The young people’s songs were developed through a 7 week course, held at Bridport Arts Centre, and led by Robert Lee, Ellie Kirtley and Leonie Prater, during which they explored ways to express their ideas through words and music and developed their own creative voices.
The performance was due to be staged on the sea defences on Lyme Regis seafront, in an innovative site-specific outdoor setting. Poor weather meant the final performance was held indoors!
Seaton Acapella and community participants joined us to also perform an original song written by Ellie Walker, using lyrics written by children and young people from our weekly music groups – Hub Jams and Boombox.
The performance site was dressed with sculptures made by artist Holly Miller working with young people and families at community workshops.
Songs of Here; Songs of Now was supported by Dorset Community Foundation
