While we are not able to meet to make music together as a group, we will be sending you fun and easy ways to carry on making music and connecting together.

Our 4th #MeetTheTrainee - Meet Ben! He’s taken a riff from the intro to ‘honey whiskey’ by Nothing But Thieves, and added his own unique twist! A great example of a different way of approaching composing/music-making! Read about his B# Journey below:

Hi my name is Ben,
I started my B Sharp journey at 10, and have been a part of it ever since!! Writing music is something I’ve been doing for as long as I can remember and is now part of my every day life. Being able to write and create music with B Sharp has been great and I’ve loved it all. I have an incredibly varied music taste from frank Sinatra all the way to Nirvana!! Can’t wait to carry on my B Sharp journey with you all!

Welcome to the second of our #MeetTheTrainee project we recently started! Today's young person is Grace. Here's her B Sharp journey - We hope you are inspired to pick up a new instrument like Grace has during this Isolation! "Hi, my name is Grace and I joined BSharp 3 years ago as a participant in Hub Jams, joining the Houseband (LaunchPad) after being there for about 6 months which led me to become a trainee music leader. I help out at Hub Jams currently whilst also being involved in the organising of the Busking Festival.
This is a short clip I recorded to try and show my learning process with the guitar. I am very new to the instrument and have found my experience in BSharp as extremely helpful for learning this new skill. I also play a bit of piano, but singing is definitely the talent I have spent the most time improving and exploring. After performing in the house band for a year and a bit, I feel a lot more comfortable singing on stage and have overcome the anxiety of singing in front of other people.

As a trainee, I love to mentor young people because it is so fulfilling being a part of someone else’s exploration of their own talent. I am able to help them to build their confidence, performing abilities and musical skills. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to use my knowledge and experience of performing, to make a young person’s experience with music as interesting as mine was.
I know that BSharp has given me the push I needed to find my own way in the musical community and helped me explore my own sound. It has given me confidence in music and my own life. It has helped me enormously and continues to support me. "

Listen here to the fantastic songs written by children from the Axe Beacon schools during B Sharp's Nature Songs project - https://soundcloud.com/b-sharp-music/sets/nature-songs. The children explored the local environment with @wildeastdevon and used songwriting to develop lots of new vocabulary and learning about the plants and animals they discovered. "All the children were really engaged with the writing and performing music and grew in confidence through the sessions, they had a great time and really valued the experiences they gained. We have a lot of children with learning and behavioural needs and some of them were hesitant to get involved during the first session but by the end of the sessions the were really enjoying it. This was due to the knowledge and enthusiasm for music that came from B sharp which really inspired and motivated them. They really loved recording the lyrics and performing their parts and showed real pride in their work." Teacher
